The cloud is ideal for data exchange between people, because data/files are stored centrally on a cloud server. Any number of users can then access these files from a wide variety of locations and devices – even at the same time and in parallel.
In addition, the cloud is highly available. They say: She is “always on”. The data can therefore basically be accessed at any time and from anywhere.
If personal or highly sensitive data is to be stored or transferred between people, data security is the focus.
Cloud providers are obliged to ensure the necessary protection of data against access by unauthorized third parties.

TeamDrive offers several options for exchanging or sharing data with other people in a secure manner:
- Working together in data spaces
- Sending files via Download link in email
- Receipt of files via upload link and digital mailbox (inbox)
Joint work and data exchange in data rooms (spaces)
TeamDrive-Spaces – in short: Spaces – are so-called data rooms. In these data rooms you can work on files together with other people and exchange data with each other in a highly secure manner.
Such a space is basically a normal file folder on your PC – just as you know it.
But: Not every person has free access to this data room or can make changes to files there at will, such as:
- Add files / create new files,
- renaming files,
- moving files,
- changing the content of files,
- deleting files.
A TeamDrive space therefore includes a system for managing access rights to this data room and access rights to the data content.
You can invite any number of users – we say: space members – to a space.
So-called guest users are also possible – i.e. mostly external users who do not work with TeamDrive Professional or are not registered with TeamDrive.
The data/files of a space are highly securely encrypted in the TeamDrive cloud and the space is completely isolated from the outside. In other words: members of a TeamDrive space can absolutely securely exchange data with each other and work together on files.
Nobody, not even the IT department of your company, has access to or insight into the data in a TeamDrive space!
For working together in TeamDrive spaces, we recommend that you download and install the TeamDrive App.
Alternatively, you can also use TeamDrive browser-based. This means that secure data exchange between people is also possible via the web app – without the Have the TeamDrive app installed.
In any case, you need an account with TeamDrive and must therefore register with TeamDrive.
You can monitor local folders, UNC paths on network drives or folders in a virtual file system and sync them to the cloud. These folders are transformed into spaces (data rooms).
Sending files via email
There is often a requirement to send sensitive files ad hoc to people who do not work with TeamDrive or are not registered with TeamDrive.
Time-consuming and complicated procedures to securely encrypt these files are of course not possible in this case.
However, with TeamDrive it is possible to make the files available to an addressee via a download link via URL.
This can be done in two different ways:
Receipt of files via digital mailbox (inbox)
Even people who do not use TeamDrive can send you securely encrypted data/files. A case example would be a job applicant who wants to send you his application documents.
