Secure cloud services that are easy to use and comply with all legal requirements.

Hamburg, October 21, 2021 – 2-factor authentication is considered to be extremely secure, but also somewhat cumbersome for users to handle. Hamburg-based TeamDrive GmbH has introduced a variant for its sync-and-share service of the same name that is particularly easy to use while maintaining the same high level of security. For this purpose, a PIN is automatically sent by e-mail for each web access, which can be adopted with a single click.

“We wanted to prove that security and simplicity are not mutually exclusive and recommend the additional protection to all cloud users,” says TeamDrive CEO Detlef Schmuck. As an alternative to sending PINs by email, authentication can also be done via the Google Authenticator app. Turning on the enhanced 2-factor security level automatically ensures that the second security factor is provided for all login attempts. The process ensures that unauthorized individuals cannot gain access even if they manage to sniff or guess a password. “In the age of home offices, companies should not rely on password security alone, but make 2-factor authentication standard,” advises TeamDrive CEO Detlef Schmuck.

The latest security upgrade is in line with the company’s strategy of providing highly secure cloud services that can be seamlessly integrated into all standard IT environments. Installation can be carried out by anyone without any special IT knowledge, the provider assures. Afterwards, data assets stored in the cloud are available to users as easily as a virtual drive. Creating, copying, moving files and so on – everything takes place after installing TeamDrive just as before. Programs such as Microsoft Office, for example, work together with TeamDrive without any changes. However, all data is encrypted both on the clients – PC, tablet or smartphone – and in the cloud. The end-to-end encryption is so “tight” that TeamDrive does not have any keys to it either; this is called zero-knowledge technology. This means that even in the event of a hacker attack or in response to a government order, no readable data can be lost or released.

Simple, secure, legally compliant

Detlef Schmuck explains the concept: “From the very beginning, we developed TeamDrive according to two strict rules. First, there must be no central point of attack; therefore, we as a provider must not be able to gain readable access to customer data. Second, the security must not be complicated for the user, so that they don’t even think of circumventing it to make their life easier. Following these two guidelines, TeamDrive is the ideal solution for connecting home office workstations, putting together work groups, setting up secure cross-company communication channels, or simply exchanging data in a legally compliant manner in a club, for example.”

As the provider emphasizes, TeamDrive complies with the requirements of the German Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Principles for the Proper Keeping and Retention of Books, Records and Documents in Electronic Form and for Data Access (GoBD). TeamDrive even meets the requirements for professional secrets such as tax advisors, auditors and lawyers in accordance with Section 203 of the German Criminal Code.
