File path conflicts can occur when a file’s file path exceeds the character limit of the local operating system. File path conflicts are also local conflicts, which means they can occur on one user’s machine but not on the next user’s machine. The file path is always relative to the user’s local folder structure on the machine (and operating system) where the conflict appears. In general, Windows users run into file path conflicts quicker than Mac OS X and Linux users. Use the following link for information regarding the operating system-specific restrictions on paths and file names.
A quick and efficient way to locate and resolve a path conflict is to use the search function and filter for “Conflicted or Invalid Paths”.
The only way to remedy file path conflicts is to shorten the path by renaming either the file or some of its parent folders. It is best to rename files and folders via the TeamDrive client. This will result in the conflict being resolved much quicker.
To resolve a file path conflict, please do the following:
- Navigate to “Active Spaces”.
- Locate the conflicted file or folder.
- Hover the mouse over the conflicted file or folder (on iOS and Android swipe the file or folder from right to left) and click on “i” to open the file or folder’s “Information” page.
- Click on the first row (containing the file or folder’s name) to rename the file or folder accordingly.
- Once the file or folder has been successfully renamed, click “save”.
