TeamDrive provides guarantee of compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation

Hamburg, February 18, 2021 – Companies in Europe received penalty notices worth around 160 million euros for data protection violations in 2020. In Germany, the figure is said to have been around 50 million euros. “Anyone who still believed that the supervisory authorities would not take such a close look at violations of the General Data Protection Regulation was proven wrong in 2020,” says Detlef Schmuck, CEO of the Hamburg-based data service provider TeamDrive GmbH. The company gives its customers a “guarantee of compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation”.

Going beyond the GDPR, the TeamDrive service also complies with the Principles for the Proper Keeping and Retention of Books, Records and Documents in Electronic Form and for Data Access (GoBD), according to the provider. “Violations of the GoBD don’t usually interest the data protection authorities, but they interest the tax authorities all the more,” says Detlef Schmuck. In addition, TeamDrive counts itself among a “very very small circle” (Schmuck) of companies whose data service meets the highest German requirements for data protection and data security in accordance with Section 203 of the German Criminal Code for holders of professional secrets such as lawyers or tax consultants.

Important foundations for this are consistent application of the zero knowledge principle and seamless end-to-end encryption. Zero knowledge means that the provider has no keys to the customer data, so that even in the event of a cyber attack, data thieves cannot obtain readable customer data. End-to-end encryption covers end devices and transmission paths, as well as data storage in a data center located in Germany. “At no time does our customers’ data leave the Federal Republic, either physically or legally,” assures Detlef Schmuck. In addition, a backup is continuously created of all customer data. This means that customers whose data is destroyed by a cyber attack, for example, can restore it at any time.
