TeamDrive Managing Director Detlef Schmuck speaks of a “smooth and seamless transformation”.
Hamburg/Germany, March 2, 2023 – After more than 90 percent of Hornetdrive’s users gave their approval, the German TeamDrive GmbH has taken over Hornetdrive’s operations. The transition took place without downtime or operational restrictions. Nothing has changed in terms of prices and services. All encrypted data remains in German data centers. TeamDrive Managing Director Detlef Schmuck speaks of a “smooth and seamless transformation”. The takeover by TeamDrive came after the previous operator Hornetsecurity wanted to part with the service in order to focus on its core business.
During 2023, TeamDrive will offer Hornetdrive users the option of either renewing their existing contracts at unchanged prices or migrating to the TeamDrive service as an alternative. By migrating to TeamDrive, users will receive a whole range of new functions with the same high level of security.
Highest security requirements in accordance with EU law
TeamDrive cloud services comply with the highest security requirements under European law. This includes in particular: seamless end-to-end encryption, zero-knowledge architecture, audit-proof versioning, two-factor access protection, automatic data synchronization between all authorized devices, regular backups and data storage exclusively in the EU. This makes the service suitable for professional secrecy holders such as lawyers, judges, doctors, tax consultants and auditors, which is considered the highest security level in Europe. All requirements according to the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) are met here.
Important step towards data self-sufficiency in Europe
TeamDrive CEO Detlef Schmuck had already made it clear when announcing the takeover that he also wanted it to be understood as an important step towards a “data autarky of Europe.”
“We need highly secure data rooms that are subject to European law and are neither directly nor indirectly dependent on the legislation of a non-EU country,” Schmuck is firmly convinced.
In particular, he believes it is a matter of reducing dependence on U.S. providers. He points out: “Many companies and public authorities use US software and often also US cloud services. The former is permitted, but the latter clearly violates the General Data Protection Regulation insofar as personal data is collected, which is practically always the case. With TeamDrive and now Hornetdrive, we provide European alternatives. The latter still allow the use of US programs, but ensure that data storage is strictly in accordance with European law.”
TeamDrive is regarded as “secure sync&share software made in Germany” for storing, synchronizing and sharing data and documents. The basis is end-to-end encryption, which ensures that only the user himself can read the data – neither TeamDrive nor any authority can decrypt the data. This technical and legally binding security is appreciated by over 500,000 users and more than 5,500 companies from all sectors, from industry to healthcare, as well as law firms, business and tax consulting, and public administration. TeamDrive ensures that all data is stored exclusively on servers in Germany and guarantees compliance with European data protection legislation. TeamDrive supports Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Android and iOS. The newly added Hornetdrive service will further expand this position.
